The Middle East Research Ethics Training Initiative (MERETI) was established in 2005 and since then more then 50 individuals have received Certificate Training in Research Ethics.
Trainees have come from Egypt, Sudan, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.

Certificate Training consists of an academic experience during the summer at the University of Maryland followed by online training and the performance of a project during the following ten months.
Trainees’ projects have included research studies with subsequent publications in peer-reviewed journals, establishment of curriculum in research ethics, and development of research ethics committees.

This year, the MERETI program will offer a Master’s Degree in Clinical Research with a specialization in Research Ethics.
The Global Ethics Education Initiative is a program of MERETI, focused on sharing knowledge with ethics scholars and clinical practitioners around the world, with a focus on the Middle East.
